Manga+Press and WordPress 3.0

Well, after some quick testing I am happy to say that Manga+Press 2.6.2 does work with WordPress 3.0.

Now, here is the other news that I’m sure some people are anxious to hear about: the next version of Manga+Press, which is 2.7. First off, I’m done with school so that means more time to work on the plugin. Second off, I’m going to completely rework the code from scratch—make it more modular, more flexible than the current version. The other part to that is I have to maintain backwards compatibility. Finally, because of the amount of changes, I’m going to advance the version number to 3.0. Hey, might as well ;-) The ETA I have for releasing Manga+Press 2.7 3.0 will be sometime in August, possibly middle of August.

And no, I haven’t forgot about CharacterWiki. I just can’t offer an ETA on it yet.

Hi Jessica, good work with the latest version of Manga Press. You know, I was talking to Brad, the developer of Stripshow, another WordPress comic plugin. We were discussing how ComicPress has so many users because it has a team of developers, which gives people confidence that it will be around and supported for a long time. Manga Press and Stripshow are dependent on only one person though. Brad agrees and is now looking for developers to work on Stripshow to make it bigger. I was wondering- instead of you each working on your own separate projects, how about merging Manga Pres and Stripshow into one plugin, and both of you forming a dev team? If you could find 1 or 2 other devs, then you could build a platform as good as ComicPress (which by the way I think is too bloated and complex). What do you think?

Wow, thank you! Originally, I developed Manga+Press as an alternative to ComicPress because CP didn’t really suit my needs at all. I’ve thought about partnering up now and then but I guess the problem is Manga+Press is sort of my baby and I think for now—though I’m sorry to say this—I’d almost prefer to keep it that way. The other part of the problem is M+P 3.0 is supposed to take advantage of custom post-types and taxonomies for managing comics. Finally, the main issue that eclipses everything else is that I’ve just started a job as a PHP developer, and for now, I’m too busy learning Zend Framework and getting used to a new sleep schedule to dedicate to a dev team. Either way, though, I think it would be a good idea for the future—projects like this usually only need one person to get it off the ground but managing the long-term outlook takes more people. Basically, it’s something that I’ll consider eventually—just not for the immediate future ;)
